Miles Miller

Miles Miller is pursuing a Masters of Science in Engineering and writing a thesis on Simplified Vehicle Preventative Maintenance Practices to Prevent Corrupt Mechanic Encounters. In May 2018, they earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Automotive Systems) on the Arizona State University Polytechnic campus through Barrett the Honors College. Miles was a BRECE (Broadening the Reach in Engineering through Community Engagement) scholar, allowing them to work on various community engineering projects both locally and globally. BRECE introduced them to GlobalResolve, providing the opportunity to travel to Maasailand, Kenya. Miles has lived with the Maasai community for a total of 4.5 months, working on various engineering projects with the local community. Ultimately co-starting and mentoring the Maasai Automotive Education Centre project with the Maasai since June 2018.​

Mark Henderson

Mark Henderson is President’s Professor Emeritus and Co-Founder of GlobalResolve, a social entrepreneurship program in the Barrett Honors College that has created teams of students and faculty to collaborate with communities in 14 countries in the developing world for projects in water, energy, health, education and agriculture. Henderson serves on several boards including the Advisory Board for the Maasai Education, Research and Conservation Institute in Kenya.  Henderson received his PhD in mechanical engineering from Purdue University.  He has lectured internationally and published across typical disciplinary boundaries including sustainable development, global design teams, frugal innovation, geometric modeling, intelligent CAD and 3D printing.

John Ferrara

Major: Global Studies & Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership​
​
John is a Barrett student, the Honors College, pursuing concurrent degrees in Global Studies & Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership. Growing up, John was engaged with many non-profits throughout the Valley, where he directed a youth philanthropic organization. This led to him being a research intern at the Hudson Institute in Washington, DC, for international development finance and political economy projects. John also is a co-founder of Arizona State's GlobalResolve Club and a former member of the MAEC team. He is excited to be returning to the project through the new GlobalResolve Lab.

Rachel Hess

Major: Spanish

Rachel is a sophomore studying Spanish Linguistics at Barrett, The Honors College at ASU. She was born and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, and took a gap year, traveling to 14 countries after graduating from high school. On this trip, she developed her love of travel and continued her passion for community service, as she worked on various projects to aid local communities in Peru. She loves connecting with people from other cultures and is looking forward to traveling to Kenya and finding new friends in the Maasai people. Rachel is excited to learn more about the Maasai way of life and learn more technical automotive skills. She has experience in grant/proposal writing and fundraising, so she is eager to help make the project a reality.

Paul Larson

Major: 
Aerospace Engineering(Astronautics)

​Paul is a sophomore studying at Barrett, the Honors College at ASU. He is interested in engineering and community service and is excited to be working on a project where the two meet. Paul has completed an internship working for a tech startup that makes autonomous drones, and he is looking forward to continuing coursework related to vehicles and machines. He looks forward to applying his skills to the team and learning more about Maasai culture.

Sudin (Dean) Regmi

Major: Biomedical Engineering

Dean is a junior studying at Barrett, The Honors College at ASU. He grew up in Nepal and the Phillipines and came to the US when he was twelve. Dean is passionate about work management and data research and has a background in cars by watching a lot of Top Gear. He is currently working on a research project for 33 buckets to potentially make business and medical plans for the industry. Dean is excited to be part of the Maasai Automotive team and hopes that his automotive knowledge and hands on experience along with his diverse cultural history will help accomplish the team's agenda.

Over the course of the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters our team has been working on four major aspects of project development consisting of: curriculum development, facility design, microgrid design, logistics and tool/vehicle management. We will be testing the trial curriculum and mobile repair kit prototypes (seen in the photo above) in Maasailand in June 2019.
