With the conclusion of another month of hard work and dedication to the Maasai Automotive Education Centre, our team here at ASU is excited to share our progress and goals moving forward.

February Accomplishments

Motivated by our strong start at the beginning of the semester, our team has continued to make great progress in February. As a team, the progress we have made this month can be broken down as follows:

  • Visited local car shows. This month, our team made several visits to local car shows to spread awareness of this project and to raise funds to meet our first fundraising goal. Visiting these shows afforded us a great opportunity to meet with passionate, automotive-minded individuals, many of whom immediately connected with this project and the problems we are working to solve.
  • Met initial fundraising goal. We are excited to announce that we met and surpassed our first fundraising milestone this month! Our goal was to raise $1,800 for the launch of six Mobile Repair Kits, a goal that, with the generous support of many amazing people, we were able to achieve. Please see our “February Fundraising Contributors” section below where we recognize our gracious donors.
  • Launched the Mobile Repair Kits. With the funds we raised this month, we were able to purchase the materials for all six Mobile Repair Kits, thus facilitating the official launch of the first wave of kits. The items are on their way to us and will be assembled and delivered to Prescott College in the first week of March, before the Prescott College students fly out to the Maasailand for their spring courses.
  • Secured radio demo for testing. This month, we have been in communication with the company TCC Secure, which specializes in encrypted, military-grade communications. After several conversations with TCC representatives and the Maasai guides, we have determined which of their products appears most viable and applicable. TCC Secure has generously offered to send us a demo of the system which will be arriving in the first week of March.

February Fundraising Contributors

We would like to take this opportunity to recognize the amazing individuals who have supported this project with their generous donations in the month of February!

It is with deep gratitude that we recognize the following donors:

Charlene Anderson, Deidre Brodeur-Coen, Joanne Cunningham, Chelsie Hancock, Mark Henderson, Logan Rhind, Colton Sattler, Cherly Schmidt, and the many anonymous donations from our Donor Wall on our Pitchfunder site

We would also like to thank the many individuals at the Scottsdale Pavilions Car Show who graciously donated to this project!

Your generosity has helped us meet and surpass our first fundraising goal! With these funds, we have purchased the first wave of Mobile Repair kits which will be launched in the Maasailand in the first weeks of March.

March Goals

As the semester is passing by quickly, our team is becoming more comfortable with the project and the goals we have for the upcoming month. For the month of March we plan to work on the following:

  • Work towards a new Fundraising goal of an additional $4,000 by May. While we already met a huge milestone by raising nearly 2,000 dollars, we still have to purchase and prepare many more repair kits to implement this summer. We will be continuing to attend car shows, advertise our pitchfunder, and host fundraisers in March to start working towards this goal.
  • Finish curriculum plan. With May quickly approaching our team is now going to begin putting together and wrapping up the curriculum we will be teaching and implementing in Kenya. This means we need to develop learning objectives and educational templates for use by our team and the Maasai people.
  • Finalize travel plans. Our team is now looking to finalize our plans for travel to the Maasai village. Some things we will be doing there include implementing our automotive education curriculum, distributing the mobile repair kits, and putting into action our new communication systems. As we narrow down our tasks and finalize these plans, we are also looking to purchase plane tickets soon and completely finalize our trip!

Chipotle Shout out:

  • Come support our team on Monday, March 30th at the Chipotle on Rio Salado Parkway! If you come between 4:00 PM and 8:00PM and mention “Global Resolve”, 33% of your purchase will go towards our organization! If you cannot make it, you can still help by spreading the word! Thanks!
